Pushing the limit to exhaustion...

The importance of self-care and how we always tend to overlook it.

We always feel like we constantly have to keep going and going and going… until almost breaking point. The washing, the cooking, the dishes, the kids, feeding everyone, cleaning up after everyone, bath time, bed time and it just doesn’t stop. So where does that leave us at the end of the day? Utterly exhausted...sometimes you haven’t even had time for a shower.


I can’t stress the importance of self-care and how overlooked this is within our daily dealings and routine. We seem to make sure everyone else’s schedule and routine is perfect with so much time and detail placed into them, but what about our own? This idea of self-sacrifice when it comes to being a parent is ultimately flawed because if you sacrifice yourself for your children then what is left of you to give?


You need your energy to give, emotional stability to give, mental clarity to give and time to give. Don’t lose yourself and your identity in the process of being a parent. Your children need the best of you to be the best themselves!... So, what are you going to do to change this?

  • Make time to take a shower everyday (I know sometimes there literally isn’t time but make it a priority and make time).

  • Use some essential oils for calming/stress relief.

  • Drink some herbal tea such as chamomile.

  • Ask for support. Look to your partner, family, friends or parents for some time during the week where they wouldn’t mind looking after the children, even if it is for one hour, so you can do something for yourself.

  • Nap with your children if you can (especially when they are very young)

  • Find an activity, hobby or interest you enjoy doing eg. painting, yoga, coffee dates, reading a book, working from home etc.

  • Schedule your meals with your children’s so you make sure you are eating during the day.

I guess it is about making yourself a priority too, sometimes we forget about that part, being a parent. I am here to remind you that the best thing you can do for your children is heal yourself and be the best person you can be.

It will rub off on them and ultimately you are teaching them about the importance of self-care.
